Before I became a freelance writer . . .

I was the “grocery guru.” After graduating from Indiana University Bloomington, I worked for seven years for Oscar Mayer Foods—selling hot dogs, to bring home the bacon, and that’s no bologna! (Yes, I could have had the Wienermobile at my wedding 18 years ago, but shoot, I wasn’t going to compete for attention that day!) When I became a stay-at-home mom (three kids ago), I was an avid saver and coupon clipper—the kind you don’t want in front of you at the grocery store. I taught a class at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne that combined industry insights with savings techniques, and lots of women said, “You should write a book.”

So, I took a non-fiction writing class at Taylor University, specifically to learn how to write the next bestseller about buying groceries. Soon after, two women from Consumer Dummies believed in my project. It went as far as the one-step-away-from-a-contract level, but then it died. That's OK, because through the experience, I learned lots of lessons that have made me a stronger person and writer.

Now I write about all kinds of topics. Check out some of my favorites under the clips link.
